You will, however, notice it when you dip your pen into your ink the ink becomes noticeably sludgy! You can dilute the ink, but it is difficult to fully get rid of the blob. I’m sorry to say that I don’t have a good photo of the blob it doesn’t photograph well because it’s just as black as the rest of the ink. I think it’s the vegetable gum binder in the ink coming together and thickening. Here’s what I mean by that: over time (we’re talking a year or so), this blob of goo with a texture like a gelatin-based dessert forms in the ink. First of all, it has a tendency to morph into Jell-O. Speedball India ink is relatively beginner-friendly however, there are a couple of quirks it has that are important to note. When I very first set my sights on learning calligraphy, in fact, Speedball was the ink that I started out with. From 2012 to 2014, I used it to create almost every client commission I received, like the Kaitlin Style watercolor save the date map pictured below. And you know what? The great news is it’s a nice, reliable ink. Speedball India Ink is probably what is available to you in your neighborhood arts and crafts shop. Martin’s Bombay India Ink, you can find it at:Īustralia – Jackson’s Art Supplies (as part of a relatively expensive set, unfortunately) Canada – Colours Netherlands – Art World Gallery Philippines – Craft Carrot United Kingdom – Scribblers (and several other retailers) United States – Paper & Ink Arts (and several other retailers) Speedball India Ink If you experience this problem, you should be able to remedy it by adding a bit of liquid or powdered gum arabic to thicken the ink up a bit! I have noticed that the ink can be a little bit runny - though not to the same degree as, say, Higgins Eternal - so it may not be the best ink to get if you are brand-new to calligraphy. I have read, however, that on low-quality papers, the ink can bleed. However, this India ink enables you to make strokes that are thin without compromising your ability to scan them into your computer.Īs far as cons go, Bombay ink hasn’t given me any grief as of yet. Some inks, especially those that boast tiny hairline strokes, don’t play nice with the scanner (ahem, walnut ink, iron gall ink, and Higgins ink). Like most black India inks, Bombay inks scan very well! I used Bombay ink to create all the hand-drawn/written components of the tulip-themed fabric invitation below (the invitation will be showcased in an upcoming blog post), and I was happy with how well it cooperated with the scanner. There was no problem with the Bombay ink its somewhat thin viscosity cooperates with different sizes of nibs to draw very fine lines! Crow quill pens have an itty-bitty nib, and if you pair those tiny nibs with thick inks, you can run into issues. First of all, I was very pleased at how nicely the ink worked with a crow quill pen. I mean, it does exactly what it’s supposed to do: it writes well and proves impervious to water.Ī couple of months ago, I used Bombay ink to create a line drawing of poppies, which I then painted over with watercolors. Martin’s Bombay India Ink, it’s a fantastic ink that you won’t regret having in your artillery. While I don’t think there is anything shout-it-to-the-rooftops special about Dr. It’s hard not to like India Inks in general they are smooth, waterproof, archival, and wonderful for illustration and calligraphy purposes. All of these inks are excellent choices if you wish to create black calligraphy however, it’s a good idea to get to know them a little bit better before you make a buying decision. Martin’s Bombay India Ink, Speedball India Ink, and Winsor & Newton Black Calligraphy Ink. Today, we’re going to examine three more inks to conclude the comparison: Dr. ![]() In Part I of the Black Calligraphy Inks Comparison series, you were introduced to Ziller, Sumi, and Higgins inks.

As a result, it was extremely easy to cut and not overly sweet as some have complained. After reading so many reviews saying the cake was very hard to cut, I decided to omit the chocolate ganache from the cookie crumb crust (just used butter with the crumbs) and made a thin chocolate genoise cake for the middle layer. I would reduce that to 1 teaspoon if I made it again. The kids liked it, but didn't love it - for their palates it had too much peppermint extract. I was looking for a kid-friendly recipe for Christmas Eve. The guests all loved it and plan to make it for their own Christmas gatherings. 30 seconds in the microwave on the "soften ice cream" setting and the dessert cut easily. I wrapped the bottom of the spring form pan in wax paper so that the frozen dessert easily transferred to a small cutting board fro serving. That part is kind of a no brainer! My microwave has a "soften ice cream" setting which came in handy when I created the layers and when I served the dessert. I used Tillamook white chocolate peppermint bark ice cream in place of all the steps of turning vanilla ice cream into peppermint ice cream. Other reviewers thought the ganache was too sweet so I reduced the corn syrup by half. If I make it again I will add more chocolate, probably half what the recipe calls for, to see if that solves the problem. The crust was not too hard, and cut easily, but it felt like it could use a bit more substance. I followed tips from other reviews and reduced the chocolate in the crumb crust to just a few tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips. It does take a little time to make but well worth it! The end result is worth every moment! It is not only fantastic to eat but looks beautiful on the cake stand. We look forward to this wonderful dessert every Christmas! The only thing I changed was I use Oreos instead of chocolate wafers. My family loves this recipe!! It has become a family Christmas tradition. Garnish cake with peppermint candies and serve. Run sharp knife between crust and pan sides to loosen cake. Stir remaining glaze over low heat just until pourable but not warm. Top with remaining ice cream spread evenly. Pour 1 cup chocolate glaze over ice cream in pan. Sprinkle reserved 1 cup cookie crumbs over ice cream in pan press gently. Spoon half of ice cream into crust spread evenly (place remaining ice cream mixture in bowl in freezer). Working quickly, mix ice cream, 1 1/4 cups crushed candies, and extract in large bowl just until blended. Let stand until cool but still pourable, about 1 hour. Add chocolate whisk until melted and smooth. In this contentious political atmosphere, McKinley was forced to deal with the problem of Cuba-a foreign policy issue the Cleveland administration had little success in solving. While the anti-imperialists came from different occupations, political parties, and ideological backgrounds, they all opposed territorial expansion. The "anti-imperialists," as their leading historian called them, included former Democratic presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan, author Mark Twain, and dissident Republicans like Andrew Carnegie and Benjamin Harrison. Sugar producers in the lower South viewed the potential absorption of Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Philippines as an economic threat. A sizeable number of Americans feared that overseas expansion would be too costly, would bring non-white peoples into the American nation, and would deviate from the traditional isolationist stance of the nation's foreign policy. The quest for empire was not a universally accepted project, however. These individuals looked beyond American shores for new frontiers, world markets, and overseas colonies. Turner's lectures and Mahan's writings greatly influenced political leaders like Theodore Roosevelt and Henry Cabot Lodge. He asserted that no modern nation could be a great nation without a powerful navy, a superior merchant fleet, and overseas colonies. For example, Rear Admiral Alfred Thayer Mahan preached the doctrine of American expansionism in twenty books and numerous widely quoted essays. Many Americans interpreted this to mean that new frontiers were integral to national greatness. history in which no frontier existed for them to conquer. Historian Frederick Jackson Turner had warned Americans, in his much-reproduced speech delivered at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, that the new century would be the first in U.S. As the new century loomed just over the horizon, the time seemed ripe for many Americans to look beyond their continental borders to a place of destiny in the world. ![]() And select one you like from the templates to customize. Most of their inventory was, according to them, on consignment, and their rates for consigment usually topped out at 2 thousand, making the profits impossible. They didn't have that good connections to be able to pick up watches that cheap. They said they sold the most expensive watches off camera, and while that could be true, these watches again would need to make a lot more than 3-4 thousand to make up for the difference. They would need to make 3-4 thousand dollars from every watch to make the profits they were claiming, but most trades seemed to make a thousand dollars or less. The profits they claimed were never visible in the trades we saw. ![]() We saw one deal made "off camera", but nothing to indicate that the deal actually went through. They've tried to secure investors, without luck. They've been strapped for cash the entire year. Just a few days ago Anthony had facebook post where he wanted to hire 4 more sellers, likely in an attempt to keep posting growth. ![]() They've been stuck with inventory they couldn't unload without losing money. In the last or second to last episode they were trying to unload watches to someone (I guess Roman), but it seemed like they couldn't sell a single one at a wholesale price - the prices were too high. Any real operations manager would have seen these issues a lot sooner. Ironically, everybody has been blaming Mike - the operations manager - for not handeling the business better, but honestly the only reason they even made it this far is because he's incompetent. My guess is that they've been running on a deficit all the time, but because they had constant growth (wich also incures growth in expenses) they were able to keep covering the deficit - until the growth stopped with the market starting to turn. Now that there's a dip in the market, and they have no clue what they need to sell a watch for in order to make a profit, the expenses likely caught up to them. As long as you bought a watch at fair market value one week and sold it for fair market value the next, there would be money to make. The only reason they lasted this long was because the market has skyrocketed the last year. It was obvious that the entire operation was an amateur hour. It's very hard to keep track of profits when you can't correlate the bought and sold prices on an item. It was clear from the last video that they didn't register what they bought a watch for. Making $10 million means nothing if you spent $11 million doing so. Even if these were real, which in itself is debatable, they mean nothing with regards to how healthy a business is. People seem to rely on the revenue numbers. There's nothing to suggest this was a great business in any sense. The main reason seems to be that they can't believe they would throw a "great business" in the trash. People somehow seems to believe that this is a PR stunt.
